The opening week of the Cup certainly delivered - packed with drama on Whats App, surprising results, and a few heavy defeats.

In Week 1, we welcomed Egham & Hythe Ladies to the league, who began their campaign with a challenging away fixture against NRS. WR Sports A couldn’t quite carry their league form into the Cup, while WR All Stars managed to do just that.

We also have several players who are still learning the rules, so please be patient as they familiarise themselves with BlackBall and, hopefully, grow to love them!

A new set of rules, a new cup format - who will come out on top come the end of the Group Stages!!!

------------------------------------------------------------

🏆 Group A:

  • NRS 12 - 1 Egham & Hythe Ladies:
    • A challenging Cup debut for Egham & Hythe Ladies saw their opening match end in a tough 12–1 defeat to NRS. A special shoutout to Marsha Rogers for securing the team’s first point against Vinny Mitchell.

----------------------

  • SS&NR Club 8 - 5 Egham & Hythe Youth:
    • It was a strange night, with a few people jokingly wondering if there was some suspicious betting involved after some of the shots played in these matches! Lady Luck was definitely on the side of SS & NR, who secured an important 8–5 opening Cup win against the Egham & Hythe Youth. A valuable lesson for the young lads too: playing killer before a match doesn’t exactly help with potting or positional play!

----------------------

  • Three Tuns 11 - 2 London Stone:
    • Cup favourites Three Tuns started in style, storming to an emphatic 11 - 2 home win over London Stone. Some app issues for London Stone may have played a part, serving as an unwanted distraction, but regardless, it was a commanding performance from Three Tuns - and an early statement from the team many already view as favourites.

----------------------

  • Egham & Hythe Whites P - P Staines Cons New:
    • This game was postponed

🏆🏆 Group B:

  • Shepperton Sports 3 - 10 WR All Stars:
    • WR All Stars carried their strong league momentum into the Cup, delivering an impressive 10 - 3 victory over Shepperton Sports. It was a tough evening for Shepperton, with most of their players still getting to grips with the new rules — but they’ll soon settle in and no doubt improve as the Cup progresses. Could WR All Stars be the dark horses to watch this year?

----------------------

  •  Staines Cons D 8 - 5 Jolly Butcher:
    • Although the two sides are a division apart in the league, Jolly Butcher pushed Staines Cons D all the way in their opening Cup match, narrowly losing 8–5. With both teams still relatively new to the rules, that was certainly a factor on the night, but it’s a solid first win for Staines as they set their sights on progressing from the Group Stages and into the main Cup.

----------------------

  • Sunbury Con Club A 7 - 6 Sunbury Con Club B:
    • A Sunbury Con Club derby delivered plenty of drama, starting before a ball was even struck when the app decided to randomise the playing order. A few phone calls later the issue was sorted, and the match finally got underway. Shoutout to Min Kirby for producing the only dish of the night, taking it against Russell Cooper. In the end, Sunbury Con Club A edged a tight one, winning 7–6.

----------------------

  • WR Sports A 6 - 7 Eddies:
    • Despite coming into the match unbeaten in the league, that run couldn’t continue as Eddies kicked off their Cup campaign with an impressive 7–6 victory. Rumour has it the game won’t be remembered for its quality but it might make the history books for how long it took to finish! “On to next week,” I hear Ben saying…
