🏆🎱 ALES Cup: Week 2 🎱🏆
A week filled with close contests and a clear step forward from last week’s app issues, as teams continue settling into the new rules - most matches now wrapping up before 10:30pm. As the weeks progress, players will naturally become more comfortable, and the pace and momentum should continue to improve.
It proved to be an important week for several sides, with key wins helping shape the early league table. There were also four dishes recorded - two from the Three Tuns and two from WR Sports A - coming from the league’s current top two teams.
------------------------------------------------------------
🏆 Group A:
- Egham & Hythe Ladies 5 - 8 Egham & Hythe F:
- Egham & Hythe F kicked off their cup campaign in winning fashion this week with an 8–5 victory over the Egham & Hythe Ladies. The F team started strongly, racing into a 4–0 lead before Ladies Captain Amber Pressman secured a crucial win against Luke Emmett. Amber led by example throughout the night, winning all three of her matches - two singles and a doubles pairing with Becca Fuidge. It was a solid performance from the Ladies overall, earning five hard‑fought frames on what proved to be a lively and enjoyable night in Egham.
----------------------
- Egham & Hythe Youth 5 - 8 NRS:
- It was a match that genuinely could have swung either way, with several frames going right down to the black and the last mistake, but in the end NRS took the win, and probably just about deserved it through experience. NRS made a strong start, racing into a 4 -1 lead before Dan Reilly and Max James halted the momentum by taking the first Scotch Doubles. However, that brief revival quickly faded as NRS claimed the next three frames to move 7 – 2 ahead. What looked like it could become a heavy defeat was softened slightly when Mark Court, Stan Sims and Max James settled in and won their frames, closing the gap to a more respectable 8–5.
----------------------
- London Stone 5 - 8 SS&NR:
- Two wins from 2 for SS&NR in another closely faught battle this time agianst London Stone. A very good start saw SS&NR take an early 4 - 1 lead with Captain Nick McDonald getting the only frame for the London Stone. The fightback was then on in the Scotch Doubles with London Stone winning all 3 to make it 4 - 4. London Stone comeback continued to get the lead 5 - 4 but it wasnt enough, as a very spirited fightback and proving the importance of the singles saw SS&NR win 4 of the 5 last singles to win the match 8-5 and taking 8 of 10 singles.
----------------------
- Staines Cons New 4 - 9 Three Tuns:
- Another impressive win for Three Tuns, who unveiled new signing Jaff Singh and he certainly made his mark. Jaff enjoyed a night to remember, winning all four of his frames, including two dishes in the Scotch Doubles: one alongside Martin Court and the other with team Captain Leighton Cumber. Three Tuns started strongly, taking the first four frames before Matty Clark pulled one back for Staines Cons New with a win over George Smith. But the match never really looked in doubt, as Three Tuns pushed ahead to a 7 – 3 lead. Staines Cons New managed another frame in the 11th, with Dean Casey defeating Leighton, but the gap couldn’t be closed. Three Tuns sealed the final two frames to wrap up a convincing 9 – 4 victory.

🏆🏆 Group B:
- Eddies 8 - 5 WR All Stars:
- Eddies who were coming off the back of a good win last week against WR Sports A and looking to make it a double over the WR Sports Club with a good win against WR All Stars. A game of two halves with WR All Stars getting off to a good start in the singles leading 3-2 and gettign the oppening Scotch Doubles when Joe Delcourt and Tom Parsons defeated Chris Atwell and Jon Martin to lead 4 - 2. Eddies pulled it back winning the next two Scotch Doubles to make it 4 - 4 before taking that momentem into the final 5 singles, winning 4 of the 5 to take the match 8 - 5 and to make it 2 wins from 2, and both against WR Sports (A & All Stars).
----------------------
- Jolly Butcher 6 - 7 Shepperton Sports:
- One of the closest matches of the game week saw Shepperton Sports just edge past Jolly Butcher. With both teams still new to the rules and continuing to learn, the contest remained tight throughout and genuinely could have gone either way. Shepperton Sports started well, taking a 5 – 3 lead, but Jolly Butcher fought back with wins from Keith Rozario and Jason Cooper to level the match at 5 – 5. However, they couldn’t quite push on, as Terry Linacer and Lito Estrella secured the next two frames to give Shepperton a 7 – 5 advantage. A consolation point from Leo Cooper closed the gap to 7 – 6, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome, as Shepperton Sports held on for a narrow victory.
----------------------
- Sunbury Con Club B 6 - 7 Staines Cons D:
- Another close encounter saw Staines Cons D edge out Sunbury Con Club B with a narrow 7 – 6 victory. Staines started brightly, taking a 4 – 1 lead from the opening singles before Sunbury Con settled into their rhythm, sweeping all three Scotch Doubles and then moving ahead 5 – 4 after Ami Heard’s win over Jay Harmes. Unfortunately for Sunbury, Bob Heard couldn’t match his daughter’s earlier performance, losing to Dan Elsey as Staines Cons D regained control. Staines then carried their momentum through to secure the win at 7 – 5, before a consolation frame from Chris Armstrong closed the match at 7–6.
----------------------
- WR Sports A 12 - 1 Sunbury Con Club A:
- Coming off the back of a shock defeat last week against Eddies, WR Sports A bounced back in style with a dominant 12 – 1 win over Sunbury Con Club A, highlighted by two dishes. WR Sports set the record straight by winning all 10 singles, with Ethan Coates producing a reverse dish in frame 9 against Shaun Meehan, following Ben Reading’s and Ethan Coates break dish in frame 6 of the Scotch Doubles. Sunbury Con Club A claimed their only consolation point in the Scotch Doubles, where Russell Cooper and Ross Lindie defeated Rob Malik and Ben Reading in frame 7. A commanding win for WR Sports A and a match Sunbury Con Club A will certainly want to move on from.
